I'm a senior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. For my Critical Issues in Lit class we are making blogs about certain issues that we "care" about.
Media
Although we hate to admit it, the media is a giant perpetuating propaganda machine, it forces ideals and values to the masses that are perceived to be universal when in reality it really is not. It would be universal if every country was spewing the same bs everywhere, but its not and that is where the problem comes in. Every society preaches peace while at the same time deliberately conflicting with opposing views.
Standardized Testing
In America we constantly hear students whining about how standardized test "suck". Most of these students don't put much effort in their school work either. In general we can all agree that questions on the standardized test are for the most part pretty basic, and the reason for that is each question is designed to be solved in less then a minute.
Medicine
It is generally agreed upon that health care in our modern world is much better then back a century ago. We have medicine that fight infections, treats asthma, fends off the common cold, and preventing heart disease. Our dependence on medicine however is a double edged sword. Each new pill we add to the cabinet weakens our natural bodily defenses.
